x250 Screen freezes and restarts + Video
x250 Screen freezes and restarts + Video
Hi!
I think this is a common occurence, I have searched around, but could not someone who solved the exact issue
See video: https://imgur.com/a/l0YKwOS
First the computer would freeze and glitch and restart when I held it with one hand on the left side. This would happen maybe once or twice a month since I got it 8 months ago. But recently it has started to freeze entirely so I cannot even login. I have searched around and tried booting with linux, tried tightening the screws, also the cables going to the screen from the motherboard seems okay. It seems like its a hardware issue, not software.
I suspect its a faulty cable from one of the components on the left side, possibly the SSD?
Does/did anybody have the same issue and got it fixed?
Thanks in advance!

Nobody in his/her right mind holds any open laptop with just one hand!
That's asking for trouble like bending the casing, chassis, keyboard, motherboard, disconnecting cables, etc.
Maybe you should open it up and fully disassemble/reassemble it.

Hi!
Noted, and thanks for the feedback.
I dissambled it and put back the SSD and the Ram.
It seems its the Ram that caused it. The ram slot is on the left side, and I suspect holding it there causes the slot to bend possibly.
So if anyone have the same problem in the future, try to unhook the ram piece and put it back again.
Now the computer is working again.

Wow, thanks for your sharing, for confirming that it's the loose RAM !
I would have guessed that it's a loose internal video cable...(but guess you were right, it's the RAM).

Re: x250 Screen freezes and restarts + Video
Thank you so much for your information.
I can confirm the same problem!
In my case it was just a total freeze. I had to play a video and start holding the laptop from the left side to see it freeze just like your case.
However, I would add that it's not enough just to remove and re-install the memory module.
The motherboard does bend a lot from that side. This is mainly due to the big empty space between the motherboard and the top of the chassis (and nothing holding the motherboard securely in place). I've put some plastic pieces in between to minimize the bending but still this is quite unacceptable design... Never had any such problem with my previous thinkpads (x230, x220, t410, t400, t61, x61, t40p). All of them were rock solid!
