W7TABLP - NEW ThinkPad X41 Tablet

#1 Post by Wholesomer » Sun Jul 03, 2005 1:13 pm

I just want to let you guy know that Lenovo just put up a brand new X41 Tablet model W7TABLP. It does not have the FingerReader but it does come with an 8-cell battery.

Here are the specs:

ThinkPad X41 Tablet with Tablet Sleeve & Microsoft One Note
Intel Centrino Mobile Technology
Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005
512 MB 60 GB
Intel® Pentium® M Processor 758 Low Voltage 1.50GHz
12.1" 1024x768 Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900
Integrated Gigabit Ethernet
56K V.92 designed modem
IBM 11a/b/g Wi-Fi Wireless and Bluetooth
Embedded Security Subsystem 2.0
Three years parts and labor (system battery: one year)

Web Price
$2,099.00
Within 2 weeks**

I have found out more about the W7TABLP bundle.

KIT W7TABLP

18666TU X41 TABLET PENT M LV 758 (1.5) 12 WAXGA 512 60GB
22P8871 ONENOTE 2003 View Notes

The 18666TU asking price was $2499. Now Lenovo bundles them up together and calls it W7TABLP.

I don't think you right because when the 18666TU was shown in Lenovo site it included fingerprint reader. Anyway, the price for it ($2499) is the same price as for the 18666SU that includes FPR and same other specs but Inter wireless instead of IBM.

I don't think the 18666TU has FingerReader. It has 60GB and Bluetooth.

I will let Lenovo to speak for me.

Click on that link. Go to the bottom of the page. Click on the W7TABLP model. It will tell you what is in the bundle.

It seems to be an express program but there are not enough details, no price and no availability. If you look in the first list, you can see that the 18666SU and 18666TU are listed as standard models, but there are no detailed specs for the TU. prices are equal, as well as main specs. So as someone wrote in the sticky thread the only deference between them is the wireless module. If prices and main specs are the same, why should I buy the one w/o FPR?

Here is your price. You can buy one now. I bought one through EPP but I can't tell you the price out of respect for Bill. My estimate ship date is July 25.

BTW, I will trade the FingerReader for a bigger hard drive and BT any time.

That's the best price yet for the X41 Tablet. I think a lot of people who got in early will return their Tablets (if they are still within the 30 days period) in order to take advantage of the new deal.

Great news. Thanks to a Member of this forum, I has been informed that the tablet is loaded. It has FingerPrint Reader. This bundle price beats any previous tablet offered by Lenovo.

It is currently showing as "unavailable".
Wonder what the deal is with this model?

Also, do you have a link to the sleeve that was offered with this bundle?
Or, do you know what it was made out of, etc?

Thanks,

Doesn't look to be an exceptional sleeve, really, IMHO.
I don't think I would want to be walking around using the tablet by writing through a plastic panel, unless I was an insurance adjuster out in the rain doing a claim, or some such function.

I think that I would rather have a Waterfield or other sleeve, and take the tablet out of the sleeve to use it.

I called IBM/Lenova and they told me that it was a mistake and that the orders for this would "probably" not be honored. He said this to me as I told him I wanted to cancel my 1999.00 order to get this one. I bet if I just ordered it I would have gotten the order through. Anybody order this and have it canceled? I doubt they cancel the orders that got through.

This concerns me no end. I am on a timetable and if they cancel it, I will have to go with a different tablet. And I really wanted this one.....

I know it was a good deal (i got the sudent price, not EPP), that is why I jumped on it. But it's not THAT good that they should cancel the orders.

Now I play the waiting game.

I spoke to two salesreps yesterday to try and order the W7TABLP. One told me that it wasn't available yet and the other told me that it was available but the online price was a mistake and he could sell it to me for a higher price. I went back online and ordered it at the lower price anyway. The order went through fine and I have received an email confirmation. So far so good. I'll keep you posted with what happens, but needless to say I'll be pretty dissapointed with Lenovo if they try to cancel my order.

If Lenovo is going to cancel the order it will happen within 24 hours. Last week, somebody posted the Contractor Code on some "Hot Deals" sites and a lot of people got in ordering the TPs with a deep discount. 24 hours later, all of those orders were canceled.

W7TABLP in conjunction with credit card promos

#18 Post by cjenison » Sat Jul 09, 2005 12:04 am

I got the bundle for $1679.20 +tax+shipping by using Citibank promo URL and then searching "W7TABLP". I believe that there are Visa, Amex, Mastercard promos that people know about as well (hint: all of them begin with www.ibm.com/businesscenter/).

Would've loved to use an EPP to save another $100, but I think this deal should be available to anyone who has any of these credit cards.

I ordered the bundle for about the same price as the prior post. Got an email confirmation. Availability when I ordered said within 2 weeks but my anticipated ship date was a little over that. We'll see if it arrives.

Is it possible to get further discount by student status or EPP? Which one is cheaper?

From what I can tell, the EPP will be the better price (saw something in the range of $1570 for the W7TABLP bundle). The credit card promos (I verified they are all the same) seem to be taking 20% off of the $2099 bundle price (vs. only 10% off the standard tablet configurations which makes this an even better deal [bundle savings + bigger discount]). I don't think the IBM/Lenovo student discounts have been that attractive, but don't have great data on that.
