Repasting & new HSF for X220 -- should I get an X230 HSF?

#1 Post by apojoga » Sat Jun 15, 2019 7:33 pm

My X220 is now idling in the low 60C range, so I think it's long due for an overhaul.

I intend to repaste of course, but while I'm at it I'm thinking of replacing the HSF as well.

As the title says, should I get an X230 HSF assembly, or would an X220 HSF be fine?

Any general tips on repasting and the whole process, e.g. what paste to use, would also be welcome.

Thanks in advance!

IMHO the X230 fan 04W6923 (made by AVC) is the best and most quiet one.
Howto paste: http://www.arcticsilver.com/pdf/appmeth ... d_v1.1.pdf
Best paste: Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (the Real Black Stuff). And pigs CAN fly!

I am curious how this goes for you. It is on my list of items to do on my rig. Please share your experience.
Thanks

For the record, there is a very useful photo comparison of all the fan options at https://thiccpad.blogspot.com/2018/01/x ... urces.html (direct link to image).
