T20, T21 Fan/Heat Sink Upgrade

#1 Post by verktyg » Sun Jul 03, 2005 5:59 pm

I have a T20 PIII 650 that I'm thinking of upgrading the CPU to a PIII 800, 850 or 900.

In searching Google and eBay for a replacement Fan/Heat Sink and I've run into a lot of conflicting claims from folks selling these items.

Here's what's probably the latest part numbers from IBM's web site:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... odelmatrix

08K6396 T20 FAN
04P3448 T21 FAN
08K7268 T22 FAN (PIII 800)
26P9317 T22 FAN (PIII 800, 900 & 1000)

The 04P3448 fans are cross referenced with 04P3295 fans. Several folks have said that they are using the 04P3295 fans in their upgraded T20s. These part number are readily available and pretty inexpensive. Are they any better than the original T20 fans?

T22 fans on the other hand are hard to find and selling for more than the faster CPUs. For example, I have a bid on a PIII 850 CPU of $10.00 USD but the T22 26P9317 fans sell for around $40.00 USD.

There is a bracket used on top of the fan in T22s. Is this necessary? If so, does anyone have a part number? It's not listed anywhere I looked.

Also, there are 4 electrical contacts on the T20 fans and only 3 on the T22 fans. The last item is the thin plastic Keyboard CRU Insulator needs to be modified for use with the T22 fans.

Are any of these issues going to be a problem for me?

Thanks,
Chas.
