I think you will find that's very reasonable - considering these panels have been selling for approx double the price or even more
Ummm, really,? I think you might be talking about the LED version, which indeed sells for 200 bucks or more. I bought the old plain CCFL one.

That's still a good price if the panel doesn't have any major flaws.

fingers crossed here, after all the setbacks I had with this project its about time something works fine, finally,
I guess we will see in the next 2 to 3 weeks when the item arrives.

an arm and a leg, given how old these things are
85 US dollars
That's pretty regular price for this one.
I have some for sale I'd happily pass for $75, so this is something acceptable to my taste.
I have a led-modded one (Hydis + daylight kit from xiphmont; already inside the lid and hinges) I'd happily sell for $150, so $85 does not seem that much to me.

Some time ago, yes. Now it's a matter of "if I need it".

I was buying led panels for $100 (or even cheaper at some point), NOS. It's mod that costs a lot :)

I swear, I am this close of going mental here, the little hope I still held is starting to go down the drain.
So, after the misfortune I had with the LG panel which proved to be the right model but the wrong FRU, it didnt have the EDID chip, I went back to look for a panel with the right FRU and I stumbled upon a BOE hydis , non LED type, so basically one that would work out of the box with the standard T60. the right FRU and everything. see the images below.
it arrived today, I installed it, aaand ...NO JOY, I installed back the old panel to check for potential cable problems, works perfect, I reinstall the new panel, still no image,
Just like the wrong LG FRU panel, this one too shades a dim light, which is very visible in a dark room, see the images below, but is barely visible in a well illuminated room. In the background windows starts without a problem.

someone, anyone, please , explain this [censored] to me, because I am really on the edge and I dont know where the hell to go from here.

In a dark room, is the Windows log-in screen actually visible once the machine boots ?

Nope, no image whatsoever, I can do things like shutting down with alt F4 and enter. But the only thing the screen does is the dim Light visible in the last 2 images I posted.

That is odd, since the panel - judging by the pictures of the back including the FRU number - appears to be the real deal.

Do you have another 15" unit where you could test the screen ?

Well, that would be my first choice if I had such a system available. It would narrow the list of possible culprits.

Failing that, do you have another T6x LCD cable ? I understand that your is OK with the original panel, but I've seen stranger things happen...

Good luck.

Ok, so I paired it to a projector and this is what I got, sorry about the bright colors, thats the only empty room I could get at a moments notice to conduct the experiment.

so, the boe hydis is seen and recognized by the system, moninfo sees it too, unlike the non edid panel from lg which wasnt even seen by moninfo,
on desktop going to screen rez you can adjust the rezolution, up to 1600/1200
it is detected by device manager, the driver says its up to date
BUT the display still doesnt display anything, anything other than the low back light I already mentioned and shown in the previous pics.

here are the pics with everything i mention above

https://imgur.com/a/2ZJzXZY
https://imgur.com/a/Fd5PQpS
https://imgur.com/a/p1jfMhI
https://imgur.com/a/0XEKrvX

so what does all this mean, that the system recognizes and communicates with the panel, but the panel wont display anything?

I have never hooked up a projector.
Where do these weird vertical coloured stripes come from?

What is the P/N or FRU of your LCD-cable?
The HMM mentions some weird numbers that apparently nobody has ever seen.

I would also suggest to remove the LCD cable from the screen, then gently rub/clean the gold contacts on the connector with an eraser, until they all shine.
Blow away the eraser remnants, reinsert the cable.
Any better?

OH, those were just the colors on the wall
The white wall room was occupied by another family member so I did the projector thing where I could.

ok, so now the situation is less desperate and more frustrating.

I did what ajkula66 suggested, I placed the panel in my other , the broken, frankie, and it focking worked from the first try.
I looked at the FRUs for the cables, the good frankie, where the panel wont work it had the FRU you mentioned the good FRU with the bluetooth that is the 91P6970
the broken frankie had the 91P6950.

so now I know the panel is in perfect working condition, and its truly an IPS, I tested it running a video and looking at it from steep angles, albeit not a very bright IPS, but it was expected since its the non led version.

but what do I do now, how do I know what item is at fault? is it the cable? is it the inverter, is it the mobo?
if it the cable what do I do with the bluetooth?

the thing is I cant just simply install it in the other frankie, that one is severally broken, the chassis next to the heatsink where the foot of the lcd lid connects tot he frame., each time I open the lid on that machine i expect to completely snap. so a simple swap for that machine is out the window.

Well, worst case your damaged frankie may become a parts donor.

Take the lid out of the "second frankie", the one with 91P6950 cable and install it in the second one. If it does display, it's either a cable or inverter. If not, mobo has some kind of malfunction. Same way you can check just the inverter.
