Toshiba 1032GAX (100gb, 5400rpm, 16mb) why and why not

#1 Post by nrj45 » Mon Jul 04, 2005 12:24 pm

Hello,
I currently have the same problem as many people here : hdd compatibility problems (not in "white list"). But I'm not posting to complain about this (if a solution is found to this problem, it will be posted in another thread).
As long as I can't use this hdd in my thinkpad, i use it as external.
The goal of this post is to tell everybody that this hdd is very silent (whispers less than the hitashi 60gb 7200rpm) and quite speedy (I copied 50gb of movies from my tower at an average speed > 20 MB/s). I have to specify that I formatted the partition in ntfs with clusters of 64KBytes.

Summary : very good disk, not supported yet (at least on the new thinkpads).

How is the temperature at idle and with load? Is it quieter than 7k60 at idle?

Since I use it through a usb to ide controller, I can't access the smart values. But after copying 50gb of movies at 23MB/s, the case was not especially hotter than ambiant temp.

But I feel this hdd more silent both in idle and under load than the 7k60 of my t43p.
