I played with one today!!!! but don't kno which?
Great news. So I went over a friends house to chill and she had wireless internet. So we are out in her driveway and she comes out with a T series. I have no idea which one it is since they all look alike but it was very thick and had a 14 inch screen. It did not have the model number because it was old but felt so solid and still "new". I flipped it over and I saw the sticker and it said windows 98 SE. Also, it only had the trackpoint. But still I fell in love with the computer.
It is so light easy to carry but more importantly easy to use as a laptop. This thing had the perfect weight distribution and what is most important to me was the quality of the hinges. I opened it and the screen stayed where it was, not bending and creakng like others. One things is for sure I don't need to see the 15 inch because that laptop was perfect. Just wish I knew what model it was. Also I have held a T41/T42 for a few seconds in a store but I could not lift it up more than 5 inches as it was tethered down. After holding this one I can't wait to get T42/43 in August since they are probably even lighter than the one i used. Oh yeah, now i understand the keyboard remarks. It is like a real desktop keyboard.

I bought a refurb T23 from IBM and am as impressed with them as you are. Depending on how much you have to spend, you might want to check that out.wantathinkpad wrote:Great news. Yeah I figured it was that model. Yeah I still plan on getting a a new model as I plan to use mine day in day out at school and need one to last 4 years although that T series probably would have too it is so sturdy. I convinced that same friend to ask her father for the laptop. She was thinking about an HP. It is shocking what people take for granted. She had no idea she was using such a quality machine. I might have her converted.

I wish to point out that I do some prettty heavy math on my T23. I run the eCS operating system and have APL2 for OS/2. I have quite a bit of math stuff, most of which I've written, including numerical integration, equation solving including ODEs and lots of matrix algebra. Having taught at university level for many years, I have no idea what course(s) you will be taking where my lowly T23 wouldn't have enough jam for them.wantathinkpad wrote:Yeah I figured it was that model. You might want to consider something like a refurb T23 and let the difference gather interest for 2 or 3 years then get a refurb T42P. Personally, I believe you get more bang for the buck if you buy one level down from the leading edge.
