R52 SXGA+ no flexview?

#1 Post by barry » Tue Jul 05, 2005 5:21 am

I heard in another topic on this forum that the new R52 Thinkpad doesn't have a Flexview anymore with the SXGA+ versions. Is this true?
I never liked flexview because of the ghosting it suffered from.
Can anyone tell me something about the quality of this new type panel?

Thank you very much!

Ghosting is problem of every LCD display. I've seen R50 (XGA only) panels and they were lacking contrast and view angle comparing to my R51 (with FlexView). On the other hand R52 have (finally !) 5400rpm HDD.

I used an R50 and R51 with XGA only panels and I didn't see any problems with it. My R51 has SXGA+ with FlexView and I don't have any problems with it.

Do all the models have one, or is it only on select models?

I'm planning to buy a UN34CNU, do you know if that model has one? Can't find anything about it on the IBM website...

you have money to buy R52 = you have money to buy 7200RPM from Hitachi
and get a spare 2.5" HDD

Anyone has already seen it ? I've heard the display quality is extremly bad. It is a sad news because it means the R series is mostly dead :-/

I've seen 4-5 R-series, and the screens are as bright as the T-series (perhaps even brighter  )

It seems as there are different LCD SXGA+ panels used in various R52 models. One of them is supposed to be something like sony x-black, with high contrast and glass-like screen.
