Hang When Trying to Standby while on battery [caused by ATT]

#1 Post by dvorak » Tue Jul 05, 2005 5:42 pm

EDIT: Edited the title because apparently I'm unable to standby at all while being on battery. It was hard to notice, I usually start to standby while on AC, then unplug.
Off to sleep now, I'll continue troubleshooting tomorrow morning.

EDIT 2: Cause of this was a tool called ATI Tray Tools, quite comfortable and feature-rich, but apparently causes problems. I moved my discussion to the official support board.

Original post:
---------------
Wanted to monitor my battery drain while on standby and opened up CHC's battery tab. Wrote the numbers down, pressed Fn+F4, screen went black after the "Going to standby" note but the moon didn't light up, HDD was spinning and the machine still seemed to be on.

Unfortunately it didn't respond to my commands nor did it come out of this, I waited about 10 minutes.

Tried the same with Mobile Meter, still hanged.

I wondered, IBM's own utility SHOULD work, :P, didn't.
(Click on the taskbar battery % icon > Battery Information)

I also tried opening the battery info, closing it and waiting about 10 seconds, didn't work either.

Seems to be a driver issue, I'm trying to find out if this is only me, or does this happen on your laptops too?

Did a few tests and the keyword here is unplugged! ;)
None of this happens while being on AC.

I don't believe it's the fault of Mobile Meter or CHC, stanby itself works nicely until I open Battery Info :P
