Are keyboards any different in T40 T41 T42 T43 ?

#1 Post by visitor » Tue Jul 05, 2005 6:15 pm

I'm considering taking the plunge to a T4x Thinkpad, and I've been wondering whether there is any difference between the keyboards in the 14-inch sized T40, T41, T42, and T43 models ?

I mean: is there any larger amount of flex in any of them, better key travel, key spacing, etc.

As reference, my current laptops are a T23 and an X31.
I don't like the feel of the T23 keyboard but I like its key dimensions, whereas I find the feel of the X31 very good (flexes only on the left CTRL Shift area) but I sometimes stumble in the smaller keys and find it hard to get used to the small Backspace.

So I'm hoping to get the best of both worlds with a T4x.

Any shared impression is welcome. Best to all and thanks for reading.

Even within a given T4x series, more than one vendor makes the keyboards. Search old threads. In general people tend to like NMB Thai keyboards.

Good tip.
But how can I check the keyboard manufacturer of a given model ?
Thanks again

From what I understand, you can't know ahead of time which manufacturer's keyboard will ship with your particular unit. Once the unit is assembled however, you can do a parts lookup using your serial number and then you can determine which keyboard you have.

There are at least three keyboard vendors. There is no one set keyboard for a given model. Which keyboard you get is luck of the draw.

"P" models always seem to have the Thai keyboard.

The last two 'p' models I bought (2373Q1U) did not have Thai keyboards.

I don't know what my T43p has, but I really like the keyboard!
X31, T43p (on sale soon I think :( ), T400
