Tpad hierarchy

Can anyone give a brief list of the thinkpad series in order of age? I'd like to know in general and also like to know where the I series stands. On this site it's included in "legacy hardware" presumably older than the 766 I had long ago and also the 600E I recently gave up on. Are there big drawbacks to the I series compared to the 600 series?
