Bluetooth drives me crazy!

#1 Post by alexanderl » Tue Jul 05, 2005 11:49 pm

Hey Guys!

I'm a proud owner of a Thinkpad t42p and one reason why I sold my Sony was the Bluetooth implementation. Unfortunaltely I have the same problems with my IBM ....

Perhaps somebody has an idea how to solve my problems....

PROBLEM:
I installed Windows XP using the IBM Recovery services, downloaded all updates and drivers espacially the new BT software. At the point I swiched on BT I had two BTtray Icons in my Systray... I think one of it is linked to the MS Win BT driver and the other (in "red") is linked to the IBM driver... HOW TO KILL THE MS DRIVERS (SP2) ?????

Thanks for help!
cheers

With sysinternals autoruns (freeware imho) you can stop programs from starting at bootup. That's the way how I disabled that red bluetooth-icon.
No IBM at the moment :(

have you had a look here:

http://www-3.ibm.com/pc/support/site.ws ... MIGR-50245

look at the installation instructions and it tells you how to 'override' the MS Bluetooth stack with the IBM one.

Hello again,

I have the same issue: when BTTray is placed in Autostart, it starts twice. (I described the behaviour in one separate post).

Unfortunately, the link published in the response above is not more available. Can anyone tell me what was there?

Thanks in advance,

Andrey.

Bluetooth configuration

thanks for the hint, but I think that I have the newest state of the drivers (because from the very beginning I had an item "Bluetooth Configuration" in the Control Panel menu) and I update all drivers using Lenovo ThinkVantage Update utility.

I will check how BT stack of Microsoft looks like. Perhaps, I have it somehow occasionally installed - with some or in any other way. I have to clean my installation of WinXP anyway... :-)

Cheers,
Andrey

Did you read item 11 about the extra icons?

Hello,

yes, I have read it. Deletion of the files in system32 is too dangerous for me. Actually, I'm trying to follow the "Never touch the running system" principle. :-) Since this Bluetooth stuff is not critical for my daily work, I decided to create a link to BTTray.exe on my desktop and simply start it manually when I need it. I know, it's not elegant, but in this way I control memory consumption and process.

Cheers,
Andrey
