#1 Post by TJC » Wed Jul 06, 2005 10:53 am

Has anyone here installed XP pro on a 600E? I did the install over the weekend and now my screen is very dim/dark. I posted the question in the OS forum but I thought there would me more 600 users in this forum.
I have searched google and this site but no luck.....

If it's bright on AC and dim on battery, it's a configuration issue.

Download and install IBM's Configuration Utility. You can force the bright mode when running on battery.

The monitor is dim when running in AC mode( battery died!!). Will the configuration Utility force bright mode on AC too??

Bright mode should be forced when on AC. If that's dim too, then there's another problem. Your inverter or backlight could be failing.

The inverter is cheap. The backlight is a royal pain to fix.

I think is has something to to with XP When the pc boots the thinkpad screen comes up fine it goes black when the window xp logo comes up. When I get home today I will try see if there are any video drives I might have missed. I hate to go back to 98....

Black is a completely different matter than dim.

You could have your video settings in a wacky state. Starting in safe mode should help you out there.

If the screen is VERY dim, as in the backlight appears to be off but the screen can be seen with a light from above, your inverter or backlight is failing, or just maybe your screen refresh rate is off. Set the refresh rate to 60Hz and never change it.

Yes the screen is very dim, I can see the screen when the sunlight is on the screen (forget working on it after dark). I will try safemode and see if that works I might also load 98 back on to see if it is the OS or another problem.

I have a 600E 2645-4AU. I installed XP no problems. I went to the bios to make sure that a CD_ROM is a boot option. boot too the disc and follow directions, do a COMPLETE format and install.
