T41p slows down with latest video driver from IBM?

#1 Post by RaysMD » Wed Jun 23, 2004 10:10 am

So, I just updated my video driver from the factory driver. It's seems to have slowed down quite a bit. Window redraws are lagging. I have to disable PowerPlay to make things seem "normal"

Anyone else have similar experiences?

You know what PowerPlay! is for? Its for saving energy by clocking down the graphics controller when in battery mode which means a drop in performance. When powered by the mains the clock runs at full speed.

If you need full performance and you don' t care for battery life then you should disable PowerPlay!

Everything works as it should.

Well, I did a full reinstall of windows using the older "factory" version of the ATI FireGL T2 driver and it's much faster even with powerplay turned on.

With the later version, there was no compromise. It was either suffer from slow screen redraws in 32-bit mode or drain battery life.

Well, it's the original version that works for me.
