So I've got gotten a new T480 and wish to upgrade the SSD size.
It came with a 256 M.2 NVMe drive in the 2.5" bay, and I'd like to replace it with a 1TB drive. Is it possible to use a SATA M.2 drive in the same adaptor slot? I have no issues with the lower theoretical speeds.
I'd normally assume so as it's really sitting in a 2.5" bay, but I'm not sure whether the M.2 converter places any limits on this.
(Ideally, I'd also be looking to use a separate M.2 2242 drive for OS in the additional WLAN slot, unfortunately it appears that requires a combination of 2242 and NVMe which is difficult to find.)

Interestingly, the 256 size is listed as slightly cheaper than the 128.
Reading around a little more, it appears that the daughterboard/adaptor that's currently holding the 2280 card is NVMe-only.
Edit: After a bit more reading around, I just bit the bullet and ended up ordering the 256GB Lexar and an additional SATA connector cable for the 2.5" drive slot (I've got sufficient large 2.5" SSDs sitting around to reuse).
A "LENSE20256GMSP34MEAT2TA" according to OS. I'm looking to replace this with a Gigabyte 1TB NVMe PCIe; https://www.gigabyte.com/se/Solid-State ... Me-SSD-1TB
It seems this should just work. But then I came across something about M-keyed and B-keyed sticks, and I'm wondering if there could be some issue related to that? Searching for images of the above does result in sticks with similar-shaped connectors, though...
