Z70V Refresh vs. IBM t43p (Irrespective of Money)

#1 Post by the Jones » Wed Jul 06, 2005 9:28 pm

Hi everyone,

I am enganged in the ever so common search for a college lappy. Here is what I know for sure:

I want something fast, portable, with the ability to game.

Now I know that the Asus and IBM would not normally be compared due to a price difference somewhere in the nieghorhood of $1000. However, with student discounts, the cost for me is virtually the same. So, I am going to attempt to make a comparison between these two models.

I have not found anything that better conforms to my requirements, but I am open to any suggestions.

Asus specs:

2.13 ghz P-M
15.4" 1680x1050
1gb DDR2
3.5 - 4hr Battery?
60gb 7200 RPM
Dual Layer DVD
Dock w/VGA
X700 (Prob. Underclocked)
5.6 Lbs without optical
Bluetooth
User config Wireless
Carbon Fiber Chassis
Touchpad

IBM Specs:

2.13ghz P-m
14" 1400x1050 (More portable)
1gb DDR2
5.0 hr Battery Life
60gb 7200rpm
Single Layer DVD Burner
Dock w/DVI
ATI Firegl V3200 (X600 Core)
5.0 Lbs wihout optical (5.5 with optical)
Bluetooth
Atheros Wireless
Magnesium Alloy Chassis
Trackpoint

I am giving maybe a slight edge to the IBM for portability and warranty.
I give Asus the edge in performance.

So, what should I buy?

If game means 3D gaming, then X700 might be a huge factor.

Yeah... If you care about graphical performance, consider the Asus. Otherwise, I would take the T43p. Dont forget IBM support and Waranty service, it makes a huge difference too. And I mean it.
T61p - 6457-AN6
X60t - 6363-A7G - NMB - Sanyo[8]
T60p - 2007-83G - TMD - NMB - Sanyo (9)/Panasonic(6)
T43p - 2668-G4G - Hydis - NMB - Sanyo
