t43p fan speed not directly linked to the cpu temp...

#1 Post by nrj45 » Thu Jul 07, 2005 1:50 am

Hello,
I made some tests on my t43p and found that the fan is not directly linked with the cpu temp. I think the gpu has quite the same temp as the cup because they are both cooled by the same heat pipe. I don't know exactly where are temperature sensors in the case but another one is driving the fan.

Here is my test : the laptop was cool (standby all the night), ambiant temp about 20°C. I woke up the thinkpad and put the gpu at maxperf, and the cpu at 1866MHz@1308mVcore. The cpu temp raised until 45°C and the fan was still on a very very low rpm (lower than when idling for long time). I underclocked then the gpu to 60MHz core and 120Mhz mem, and the cpu to 800MHz@700mVcore. the temp falled to 40°C (the fan was still on its very low rpm state). I started writing other posts on this forum and sudddenly (while the cpu temp was still on 41°C) the fan "decided" going to a medium rpm state (the state it will keep until about 65°C).

I have no explication. Perhaps a temperature sensor on the wireless card ? next time i try it with the wireless disabled (in the bios).

Please share your experiences in that domain.

I can't but agree, my fan starts off in 15/20 mins does not matter what. Withing these 15/20 mins the temp may hit 50, but the fan stays off. But as soon as 15/20 mins barrier is crossed, ciao, my tp has to start screaming...
Yes, for me it is screaming...
