This Time Around - It's All Good...

#1 Post by CaptainMorgan » Thu Jul 07, 2005 10:21 am

So far anyways...

My 2668-75U arrived today, Ive only had it for about 2 hours or so but up to this point Im realizing my overall system last time was a dump, dud, wanker, refurbo.... this one is tighter overall. The screen is perfect -NO dead pixels and no vertical green lines - yet. I had a shadow effect on my last system and this one's screen is perfect.

I have a different keyboard - Im still unable to look anything up online and I have to call my rep about that. I know it's different because of the feel - it's super quiet and I can't tell when Ive hit a key -in the good way, typing with this baby in a quiet room will be great as compared to my last one with made some slight noise when typing.

Ive had it running for an hour and a half give or take and so far this fan is amazingly quiet. I did experience some noise with my last system. However with this one, I had to make sure it was on - and I had to make sure it was the 14"(my wife's 15" is real quiet) because I can't get over how quiet it is. The fan is barely on and I can't hear it - I could hear it with the other system as Ive already said. This is also currently running 54 processes.

Also - look at your PCMIA card slot, is that the slot to immediate left? Has double doors, no? Mine has one door on it.

My chasis the last time around wasn't particuraly solid, but I had nothing to judge and compare it to because Ive never owned a thinkpad - when closing the lid before only one side stayed down securely - the new one I have now - it is completely solid.

My DVD burner on the last system had a tough time closing and on this new one - it is so solid I can't believe it. Closes firmly and feels sturdier as compared to the last one.

Overall, besides the screen mishap I had with my laptop the last time around I thought everything else was normal and I was going to live with it. Im actually glad I had the photon beam happen because it's made me realize I was given a complete dud before - this one is amazingly perfect.

Somethings up - They must have put the previous T43 together real fast without care or refurbished it and gave it to me - because this one - it's beyond words (the first laptop 72U was my first thinkpad so I thought it was standard), they must've really paid attention to detail this time around because they made sure - so far- that everything is perfect. Omg.

Im beside myself. Ill post some pics later - and have them in my sig - Ive got a lot and I included the Waterfield's sleeve too. Now it's time to enjoy formatting and completing a fresh install.

I'm glad your screen and new Thinkpad are better. I'm concerned that I might end up with a new T43 with a dead pixel or something. The last laptop I got, which was a Dell was shipped with several dead pixels, and then eventually I had that screen replaced 4 times. I hope it will be different with IBM.

Enjoy!

Congrats on the 75U! It's my first ThinkPad as well and from your description, I bet we have very similar machines. It sounds like you probably have the NMB keyboard. I'm really curious as to what's up with the fans now on some units. Mine is like yours in that unless I almost put my ear to the machine, I can't even tell it's on. It runs at low speed almost all the time and it low, it's only marginally louder than the hard drive. I wonder if they're sourcing several different fans? Too bad the fan isn't listed in the parts lookup.

What's the deal with the PCMCIA slot? Did your 72U have double doors? My 75U also only has a single door which covers both the PCM as well as the express card slot.

If you're not satisfied when you receive your laptop, like I was, return it right away.. it's at no obligation. Ive had this put through the tests these past three days and Im very satisfied - 150% moreso than my last system - before the screen went bad. I simply have an overall better build this time around, thankfully. I think you'll be happy when yours is confirmed as in tip top shape.

Thanks. Know what's strange? I still can't look up my parts online and Im forced to wait until Monday to call my rep. Im real suspect about the fans too cuz I also received a super quiet fan this time around.. I chopped the processes down to 44 but even with more processes it's quiet. Beautiful thing. I had a two door PCM slot and this time I have a one door, which is odd. Just wanted to make sure one is the standard.

Cheers,
Highly Satisfied Thinkpad Owner

:D

The one sitting is the very ladylike Chloe and the other one that was caught walking is the ever roaming, although not a good picture, Buddy. 8)

Now that's weird, mine's name is Buddy too, and he looks like your Buddy, not so much like your Chloe :)
