T410 - Qualcomm GOBI2000 not seen ..

#1 Post by softfoot » Fri Feb 14, 2020 4:41 pm

I have a refurb T410 that I am very pleased with but it came with a Qualcom GOBI2000 fitted and the aerials are connected.

Sadly it is not seen bu the OS at all. I installed what appears to be the latest drivers etc but still no luck.

If I run the installer with the "detectcard" option it returns "not found".

Is this a known issue or do I have a dead card ??

Any hints welcomed.

Best regards,
Dave

What OS is it running?
You could try a Life-Linux DVD to see if it works there: https://www.techradar.com/best/best-linux-distros
(This runs just from DVD and does not install anything on the HDD/SSD)

The T410 is running Windows 7 Pro with 8GB of ram.

I have tried a bootable "live" CD of UBUNTU but there was no obvious sign of it seeing the device.

However, I'm something of a Linux newbie --- so what is the best way of checking ???? LSUSB ???

I believe the manufacturer ID code is 05C6 ?? USBDeview under Win7 didnt show that device.

Try checking in BIOS under Security, I/O devices, if the WWAN slot is enabled.

Yes, Everything in there is enabled.

... and I have tried isolating pin 20 with some tape - the device is still not found :-(

I had that issue on my T400 with that GOBI.

At first, disable device in the bios, boot into OS, restart device and turn it on back again.
Second thing when it will still not working - You need to install some Debian based distro and driver for GOBI card. There is two or even three power states for that card, Windows is using only first one and is not able to turn it back on when card has been put into one of further sleep modes. So make sure you will turn it on in Linux and after that, it will be working on Windows too.

If you mean by "restart the device" you mean restart the usb device --- I cannot because the card appears NOWHERE in the USB device list whether its enabled or disabled in the BIOS.

I need to find a spare SATA disk to try the Debian idea which may take a while. In the meantime having installed Debian from a CD what tools will I need under Debian ?? and are they included in the CD and if not what packages do I need to install to get them ??

I mean, restart the laptop and turn on WWAN in BIOS back again.

Here you have: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Qualcomm_Gobi_2000 That's whole guide how to install it under Linux.

Do you have SIM card inserted in tray behind battery? WWAN card is automatically completely disabled by the laptop when no SIM card is installed (cannot be seen even in OS). EDIT: or at least this was the case for Ericsson card for T500 I had few years ago.
