X201 & X230 - Wireless adapter upgrades

#1 Post by RVC » Sun May 10, 2020 1:21 pm

Does anyone have obvious choices here? I prefer to keep cost low and am primarily concerned with internal adapters. I see the USB adapters are common but this are also much more costly. I own a Nighthawk R-7800 with custom firmware so I think it takes care of the super spec's for us and I need not transfer these responsibilities to the WiFi adapter for individual laptops. I am looking for dual-band operation and MU-MIMO if I should reach for this...

I am willing to listen to the lessons and wisdom of others.

There are plenty PCIe AC-7260 cards that fit in those machines without any adapter.
NOT a great day for a Guinness! (the Real Black Stuff).

I can confirm that. The part number you want is 7260HMW (not 7260HMWAN: this one doesn't have AC Wi-Fi).

Thanks for the responses. This adapter requires IVprep/IVrain right?

Yes it does. This card is not whitelisted, so without IVRain or hardware BIOS mod, you will get Error 1802 and the system will not boot.
