wrong type model number for T23 ?

#2 Post by pitsche » Sat Jul 09, 2005 7:51 am

Hello,

today I was looking in a store specialized on laptops and there are of course many new laptops, but also two Thinkpad that are "leasing returns" ("leasing back runners"?):

- A22m --- 479 Euro --- PIII 1.0 GHz --- 14.1" XGA --- 256 MB RAM --- 30 GB HDD --- 8 MB ATI Mobility-M Grafik-Adapter --- DVD-ROM --- FloppyDrive --- Windows 2000 Pro --- 12 months guarantee -- etc.

- T23 --- 499 Euro --- PIII 1,113 GHz --- 14.1" XGA --- 256 MB RAM --- 30 GB HDD --- 16 MB SGRAM S3 Graphics Super Savage IX c --- DVD-ROM --- FloppyDrive --- Windows 2000 Pro --- 12 months guarantee -- etc.

I asked the salesman for the type model numer of the T23 to look for more information in tawbook.pdf (page 34 untill page 40).

He provided me with this number: 23-P1130 and I knew it was wrong from the beginning, but he assured me, he has nothing else :-o

Of course I searched at ibm.com, lenovo.com, ThinkWiki.org and with some search engines - nothing.

So my questions is:

Is that number complete [censored] (that's what I'm thinking right now) or something like this "FRU" which I don't know anything about because I am new to this ThinkPad-Thing???

thanks for helping out,
pitsche
Do you know http://www.thinkwiki.org/ or Mambo or Typo3 or b2evolution or GIMPshop or Open Office? You do? Great stuff, right?

Maybe the serial number?

#5 Post by doodles113 » Sat Jul 09, 2005 6:02 pm

My T23 is a 2647-6RP, and as far as i know, there is only 2647-XXX or 2648-XXX model numbers in this series. If this the only number provided, maybe this unit has the base cover, and there is a tag with nothing more than the serial number...only guessing, course.
Only a look into the BIOS setup first screen may clarify the things!
Good luck!
PS: Just a advise...between A22m and the T23, pick the T23...

It's not a serial, either - checked with both types (2647 and 2648 - that's how I found out the number on my X21. I had a serial, but no type. However, I knew that the type could only be 2660 or 2662). Also, those are the only types listed on Support for the T23...
Current: 365XD (120 MHz, 72 MiB, 6.4 GB, 4x CD-ROM, 10.4" TFT)
Past: T61p 15.0" QXGA, T60p 15.0" QXGA, X61 Tablet SXGA+, R51e 14.1" XGA, X21

Yes, that's a very, very good explanation!

I knew what he gave me was wrong, although I am new to the "ThinkPad Universe" :D I allready learned trough 'tawbook.pdf' that a type model number has four digits, a hyphen and three digits/letters, e.g. 1234-1AB (don't know if this a real type mode number, perhaps an atomic powered battery? :D ).

Again: Very clever explanation indeed,

Hello Eduardo a.k.a. doodles113!

The T23 hasn't arrived in the shop yet, the salesman looked in his computer and came back with this stupid number.
doodles113 wrote:PS: Just a advise...between A22m and the T23, pick the T23...
The A22m was on one of the many presentation tables, but I didn't look at it, because I was only interested in the T23.

Actually, I am looking for an A30/A31 with SXGA+ or A30p/A31p because of the screen resolution and because they were the last last A-Series models before the whole series was withdrawn (A-series seems to be very flexible and developable) - and not to mention my budget which is unfortunately not capable of buying a new ThinkPad with my favoured screen resolution and RAM size.

But it is hard to find one A3x here in Europe for a reasonable price. One Powerseller is trying to sell one A30p for almost 1,000.-- Euro and it is now his third try, but no one is ever bidding :)

I found a second A30, but it has quote: "some problems in the right drive slot" as I was told by the vendor (he states to be an "IBM Advanced Business Partner").

He is asking me, how much money I would spend, it seems, he is thinking about repairing it before selling it to me.

He says that the A30 in "very good conditions" and details of this ThinkPad "A30" are:

15" TFT with SXGA+ resoultion and without any pixelerrors, CPU 1.0 Ghz, RAM 512 MB, HDD original IBM 60 GB with 5400 rpm and CD-RW/DVD-ROM-Combo drive.

Someone told me allready, that this item perhaps needs a new system board.

I haven't answered that verndor yet, because I don't know how much money I would give him

Thanks also to all the other users answering in this thread!
