Disk Defragmentation

My win xp disk defragmentation tools....is not working. I don't know why......when I click on defragment.....it yields no responds at all!! What is happening??

try in safe mode first. does that work?

Whenever stuff like this doesn't work (Defrag, control panel, other key Windows programs), there is frequently a corruption to Windows itself. If you are running XP, sometimes (not always), downloading and installing or reinstalling SP2 will correct such issues because it re-writes so much of Windows. ... JD Hurst

It doesn't work in safe mode as well... :( when I click the mail icon in MSN to connect direclty via my hotmail.......doesn't work as well. Scan with AVG.....no virus detected....removed all spyware with ad-aware...

I've tried uninstall the SP2.....it works again!! Must be corruption on the SP2....now everything is fine....thanks

SP 2 itself does not corrupt the built-in Disk Defragger. It works for me. So you might go to the Microsoft site and find the actual SP 2 file, download it (very large) and try re-installing it. It is possible the initial SP2 update did not install correctly based on what you reported here.

MS will send you a CD with SP2 if requested free of charge. That's the way I went. Took about 10 days for it to arrive.
