Hi,
When i run Defrag, it loops though the "checking" process a few times and then tells me to run disk check to fix some problem before running Defrag, but when i run Disk Check, it hangs in a loops of doing the starting check before i close it. I'm running Win98SE.
Can anyone help me? i really need to Defrag my computer badly and this is really annoying. I can't do anything at all. sorry for being so vague. Thanks for you help!
Disk Defrag and Disk Check loops
I had no problems running Win98SE on a 600E -- except for the one you're describing. I "cured" it by getting a third party defragging program, "diskkeeper". You can get the free trial version and buy the home version ($19.95) from this site: http://consumer.diskeeper.com/diskeeper ... .asp?RId=1
If you're going to run 98 it's well worth the money! It will run on XP also. The "set and forget" feature is great, though it will slow the computer down a bit at times (while it's running in the background). The trial version will defrag your drive now without looping. I got the trial and ran it on my problem computer and it ran right through. After that I bought the home version. Best $20 I spent!

Awhile back, I had a coworker with a Dell laptop running Windows ME. He had a problem simular to the one you describe. He was able to run defrag successfully only in Windows safe mode. Defragging in Safe Mode will probably work for you.
I parrot jdhurst's opinion of Windows 98. Windows 2000 works very well, and since it requires fewer resources than Windows XP, it would be optimum for an older system. You can pick one up on e-bay for under $50.
I used Windows 2000 on a TP600E. I had to flash the BIOS to an updated version to get full functionality however.
