About original hard disk after hard disk upgrade

#1 Post by danlimcy » Sun Jul 10, 2005 8:27 am

If I use the follow approach to upgrade the hard disk in my Thinkpad A31p:

1) Get a new 2.5" hard disk and install it in an external disk casing
2) Use Acronis True Image to clone the existing hard disk into the external disk
3) Take out the original hard disk from the Thinkpad and put in the new hard disk

After the upgrade has been completed, if I place the original hard disk into the external disk casing, can I immediately start using it as an external drive? How do I need to make some setting/configuration changes first?

Thanks.

It is the same license, so if you use Windows 2000, it should work. If you use XP SP1, it should work. If you use XP SP2, it likely will not work.

Hi JD,
I am using Windows XP SP2. Do you mean that the original drive will likely not work as an external drive (with all the data preserved)?

But if I reformat the drive, I should then be able to use it, right?

Thanks.
