Where to find good Trackpoints for X220T?

#1 Post by Digitalhorizons » Thu Jun 25, 2020 10:39 am

Hello Everyone, it's been a while since I posted here, I hope everyone is weathering the craziness over the past year alright. My x220T has become my main machine I use for hours, I had to move over to my grandmother's house in March of 2018 to care for her pretty much 24/7, and in out of of hospitals several times, so it's been rolling with the punches pretty much like a champ seeing how it was already used when I bought it, but there are a couple of issues now, one is the trackpoint has pretty much turn into semifirm chewing gum at this point and I need a new one, cause it pops of easily now and doesn't have much firmness. I've searched Amazon and aliexpress and the trackpoints they sell do not have good reviews.
So I was wondering if anyone here knew of a place that sells GOOD replacement trackpoints for the x220 series? Or x220T? It takes a lot of abuse as I pretty much use it exclusively, hours a day, the trackpad was simply in the way with the position I'm in using the computer most of the time. My palm would constantly brush against it and move the cursor all over.
Thanks.

Hi Digitalhorizons.

"Semi-firm chewing gum".... a very apt description :D

I can send you a pack of 2 - each of the 3 different styles (cat's tongue, soft rim and soft dome) for $10 U.S. plus another $10 postage (I'm shipping from Canada, so 1.) the postage is relatively expensive, and 2.) it will probably take a couple of weeks to arrive.

The cat's tongue are genuine IBM OEM Trackpoints (84G6537), the other two styles MAY be IBM, or aftermarket...the quality is excellent in any case.

I can change the mix to any combination or all of one type if you wish.

Payment by Paypal preferred.

PM if you're interested or if you don't find something closer/cheaper.

Regards.

Dave

Digitalhorizons now has his Trackpoint caps on the way.

On a side note, it appears Canada Post have substantially raised their International Expresspost rates....AGAIN....

Not sure if it is Covid-related or not.

Definitely going to have to be very careful in estimating future Thinkpad or accessory shipments, with correct weighing/dimensions/destination taken into account before quoting shipping rates.

I'm in the wrong business....Should start up a Pony Express Division again to compete!!

Regards.

They have learnt from the worst: USPS.

Thanks to Covid-19, currently (in Ireland) the postal limits for USA are:
- No parcels service.
- Letters, large envelopes and packets only.

Currently, every package that arrives in Ireland from outside the EU, with a Customs value of €22.- (US $25.-) or more, is taxed with 23% VAT and (where applicable) with Customs Duty.
But from 1-1-2021 ALL those packages will be VAT-taxed, regardless of value.
And that [from outside the EU] also includes the UK, which will have Brexited by then.
