There is no firmware for it... bottom line. It's a new revision of the drive. If it's capable or not.. I don't know.

My HDD:

Model: HTS548080M9AT00
Firmware revision: MG4OA53A
Serial number: MRL495L4JXDGHB

Excute the commands:
1) hfui12L.exe OA5HA -pm MG4IA5HA.bin /F MRLA5HA.tbl
2) hfui12L.exe IA5HA -pm MG4IA5HA.bin /F MRLA5HA.tbl

Has displayed:
"Unmatch original firmware level
Must be update ROM firmware"

Help me, please!

===

I did not edit the files! (MRLA5HA.tbl and FW.PRO)

What should I write in section "Checksum Table" for my HDD?

I'm not sure why you would attempt to put firmware for another model on that drive.

There is no IBM firmware for that revision of the drive. That's the bottom line. Trying anything else will likely ruin the drive.

Our best bet is to wait and hope IBM updates their firmware update CD to support the newer revisions.

I have corrected the error!

My HDD:
Model: HTS548080M9AT00
Firmware revision: MG4OA53A

Download ISO.
Edit MRLA5HA.TBL, change A55A to A53A and remove all checksums but 9AAA3CF1.
Then run HFUI12L.EXE OA5HA -pm MG4IA5HA.BIN /U MRLA5HA.TBL

Congrats... you've got more guts than I do. I wouldn't attempt to modify that.

Good going.

Laptop: Asus A6Q740DD
HD Model: HTS721010G9A00
S/N: MPC0B1Y0G1KBGC
Revision: MCZOA51A

Mine is a 7K100 100G HPN OEM drive and it's weird that some of the features are NOT supported and they are:

Host Protected Area
Power-Up in Standby
Automatic Acoustic Management
48-bit LBA
Native Command Queuing

I was wondering if there any way to "fix"(get around) these missing features maybe by flashing the firmware? I've heard rumors about the HPN OEM drives being NOT able to flash the firmware at all due to the physical nature of PROM instead of the flashable EEPROM. Please help.

I had the 2010 error with the original HD after I upgraded my BIOS. I could not find any firmware related to my HD and I could not even find the firmware version in the property of my HD. I checked the firmware update page in LENOVO website and HITACHI website, both of them did not have my model. I throught there might be no firmware for my HD. Is anyone have the same HD model as me?

HD MODEL: HITACHI_DK23FA60

I followed sonnycool's instructions and they worked for me.

I don't understand how it works but seems to work fine after 3 hours of regular usage.

My setup:

T43 2668-4DU

Windows XP Pro

Bought Hitachi Travelstar 80G 7K100 from newegg.com:
Model: HTS721080G9AT00
Firmware first displayed by firmware update tool : MC4OA51A

Sorry haven't check the new firmware version after running the tool, cause I was so happy not to see the POST error message.

The "meaty" part that I followed:

does anyone know where i can buy another one of those little trays the hard drives in the t43 sit in?

also - last time i tried to put the 7200 hitachi drives in my t43 2668 unit, i got that start up error, and the drive firmware update didnt work.

if i want to try this again - do i need to hack the firm ware on the new drive as ive seen described here?

i want to run windows vista and would prefer a 7200 drive instead of the existing one in my computer.

woud this drive work in the thinkpad? and if necessary can have its firmware modiied to cancel out that annoying startup message?

That specific drive will NOT work since it is SATA. You need the PATA (IDE) version for a T43. I have the IDE version of that same Hitachi 7K100 7200rpm 100GB in my T43 (see signature below) and have really enjoyed it.

I just upgraded to Vista a couple days ago and popped in another gig of ram and it makes a big difference. Especially since my laptop is both a desktop replacement and my mobile solution.

are these two the correct ones:

what is the difference between the two?(other than the few dollars in price)

The first one is the 7K100 (which is designed specifically as a laptop hdd)
The second link is to the E7K100 (which is designed specifically as a server hdd). The E7K100 uses more power and is not suited for laptop use. Go with the 7K100 series if your wanting the drive for your Thinkpad.

I can't say with certainty whether you'll have the error message or not.

I DID have the error message on mine (7K100 100GB) and I simply had to reflash the Hitachi firmware to the IBM firmware. It was a pretty simple process that requires a little repetitive typing at the command line :)

See this thread and the links to other posts inside.

hitachi 7200 rpm in t43 - same start up error

#52 Post by ewalker3 » Sat May 05, 2007 1:33 am

ok - so i decided to take another stab at putting a 7200 hitachi 100gb drive in my thinkpad t43 so i can run vista on it.

i put the drive in and get that same error message about it not being supported. I made sure the bios in the system was updated.

i also made the bootable cd that the lenovo website said to make to updated the drive firmware. i load it up and it says there an update is not needed. the drive is one of the ones listed on the lenovo website..

any ideas. Id like to be able to put my cd drive back in the ultrabay!!

thanks,
ed

Seeing as the "E" version was specifically made for servers and the non-E version for laptops, Lenovo does not have firmware for the "E" versions on the T4x firmware update CD.
You could try the table file for the comparable non-E version, but I doubt that would work (even if it did by some chance, I sure wouldn't run it).

Best bet is to get a non-E version or just disable the warnings in the bios.

How do we manually locate the checksum .tbl value???

#55 Post by WWSS » Tue Oct 16, 2007 1:34 am

Below is the drive:

TOSHIBA MK1032GAX [Hard drive] (100.03 GB) -- drive 0, s/n Z6HBT4NMT, rev AB211A, SMART Status: Healthy

Found the firmware update should be ABxx4E as of 10/2/2007 IBM.com MIGR-64744 found here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-64744

Tried the ibm.com FWHD49.exe iso, and were told there was no firmware update needed???

need .tbl of the equation below for the T43 - Error 2010 fix...

A>hfui15.exe AB211A MCZAB211A.BDR /F ???AB214E.TBL :?:

 In short... How do we locate the checksum for the above hard drive???

By the last response to this question, we realized we did not mention that we had already tried the iso file to update the firmware and were left with only being able to press [Esc] to quit, and [Ctrl+c] for command prompt... But do not know the checksum value for this drive to complete the manual upgrade.
