T40 and bluetooth

#1 Post by EDK » Mon Jul 11, 2005 4:35 am

Hi guys,

I'm sure it was already discussed somewhere, but while searching older threads, I just got even more confused with Bluetooth stuff on IBM's ThinkPad notebooks. So, I have T40 (2374-72G) and I was told that it has integrated Bluetooth support, however, after installing IBM's BT software I was unable to connect my mobile phone while IrDA connection worked flawlessly. I'm wondering do I have BT at all?

I read something about hidden antennas and need for additional BT accessories, but it didn't make much sense to me, since imo you either have it and use it or you don't have it and you buy some BT USB toggle..

Thanks in advance.

Make sure you have BT enabled in the bios. Also, on my T43 which has bluetooth, I just got a bluetooth mouse yesterday and spent almost an hour screwing with it to get it to work. I was dealing with software from Microsoft, IBM, Broadcom, and WinComm (?). Not to mention the stuff Targus (brand of BT mouse) tried to install.

Here's what I ended up with in Device Manager under XP SP2.
The mouse is working great now and I think it's using the Microsoft Bluetooth stack.

Note: You probably have the IBM Integrated Bluetooth II or III, as IV was just released for the newer T43's & X41's.

I tried to access regular BIOS, but all I get is IBM's predesktop module without any useful information's - i.e. I didn't see any place where I can change some information's. Is there some other "key" to be pressed to access "classic BIOS" or?

Thanks

Unfortunealty, you do not have the Bluetooth antenna built-in your LT. If you did all you would need to do is buy a blutooth w/modem comunication daughter card (CDC) and replace your exsisting CDC. I would uninstall any bluetooth software, since you cannot use BT anyway.

Just in case you needed to know how to access the bios the fast way, press F1 when the thinkpad logo is displayed during startup.

Dum question maybe as you may not have BT integrated into your T40 model but did you press the FN + F5 combo keys activating the BT radio?

Does other Fn F keys work? If not then your t40 might indeed be missing ibm software. Fn F5 seems to be the only way to turn on bluetooth radio.
