Should ThinkPad T43 ship with no media?
Should ThinkPad T43 ship with no media?
My 2687-D3U arrived today. I think I love it. But it didn't come with any media. I'd love to do a clean install, but w/o the WinXP Pro CD, what can I do? The 9 cell battey added about an inch to the depth. Those shopping for sleeves schould take that into consideration.
note: it was not purchased from Lenovo, but an online reseller. Still, shouldn't it have come with media?

AFAIK, there is no media shipped with the ThinkPads, certainly no Microsoft XP CD.
You can burn recovery CDs, but all those provide for is restoring the "hidden" CD image, and they can't be used to install WindowsXP as you might expect.
Haven't received my new ones yet, so can't say for sure, but pretty sure thats' true.

My 2687 arrived last week, and included no media at all.
I'm burning the "Product Recovery CDs" right now, so I can recover the 4GB partition that is on the hard disk.
My T43 came with a modem phone cord, power cord, AC adapter, and a few MAC address stickers. I think that's everything. Some pamphlets.
Did anyone get more than one TrackPoint nib? Mine just has the flat top that came attached. The T43 literature (and screen saver) advertises three interchangable tips, but I didn't receive them. Where do they come from?

Make a set of recovery CDs through the access IBM menu, then make your own Win XP disc with info from this thread:

There is a link to excellent step by step instructions on how to make your own Win XP disc from your current system.

For anyone else thinking they'll burn a set of Recovery CD-Rs, and then burn a Recovery DVD-R. NOPE.
You can only ever burn one set. After that, it says "You are only licensed to make one set of backup media".
Gee, thanks for letting me know before I picked which one. I'd rather have a single DVD than Six CD-Rs..

I might make copies of these later or ISOs to protect them.
X31, T43p (on sale soon I think
), T400
Wonder if you can burn one set and then use it to restore the drive and burn another set ...Ground Loop wrote:For anyone else thinking they'll burn a set of Recovery CD-Rs, and then burn a Recovery DVD-R. NOPE.
