Please HELP! Crucial memory part number for T42 is different

#1 Post by Kelly Hanken » Mon Jul 11, 2005 10:09 pm

I really need some help, and I hope I am in the right place

I am leaving on a trip to Europe tomorrow, and I received last week a RAM upgrade from Crucial for my T42 (2373 model).

Unfortunately, I waited until now to install it, and I just realized that the part number for this 1 Gb RAM module is CT12864X335. 16FD, which doesn't correspond to the part number for the T42 2373 from Crucial's website.

I cross-checked the specs on this part number and the one listed for the T42 2373, which is CT433386, and they seem the same.

I just don't want to ruin my beautiful T42 with the wrong memory, but I need an answer now (my plane is leaving at 6 AM tomorrow), and Crucial is closed for the day.

Could you any of you that ordered the 1Gb RAM from Crucial check and see if this is a good part number?

Sincerely Thank You!

Kel

I would suggest putting the memory into your laptop. I'm sure it will work fine. If not, then you'll have to return the memory when you have time. There's nothing much you can do about it.

Thank you Phil.

Is there any chance I can damage the laptop by starting it up with this RAM?

I would feel much better if someone could confirm that they got this part number from Crucial working on their T42.

It is an interesting fact that Crucial provides different prices for memory chips that you look up by spec (e.g. 512MB DDR2-PC4200...) and the chips you are offered if you use the "configurator". The difference is about $5 or so. Try it for yourself. They essentially confirmed this in an email when I asked about the difference and then offered me the lower price.

Apparently that's the price of information.
Current:
T43 2668-4DU - 1.86 PM750 | 14" SXGA+ x300 | 1GB | 100GB-7200(UG) | CDRW/DVD | Intel BG
T30 2366-61U - 1.3 P4M | 14" XGA R7500 | 512MB | 20GB | CDRW

I had a similar experience w/Crucial. I was looking for 512MB upgrades for my T42 and X32. The T42 came up through Crucials Memory Configuratoe or whatever they call it for $64.88 I think and part number CT???????. The X32 isn't listed in the configurator so I emailed them and they recommended the "generic" 512MB stick for $62.99 that seemed to be identical in every way to the stick they recommend for the T42, except they are a couple dollars different in price and have different part numbers.

So anyway I place the order and when I receive it, it's two identical sticks, with the generic part number that was their recommendation for the X32. Both worked just fine, so I paid an extra $2 or so for the privilege of having the "Configurator" tell me which chip to buy. :)
The Family:
T42 2379-R9U 1.8GHz Dothan, 512MB+512MB Upgrade, U60GB, R9600, 15" Flexview
T23 2648-PU3 1.2GHz PIII-M, 256MB, 40GB, 14.1"
X32 2884-M5U 1.8GHz, 512MB, 40GB, 12.1"

Kelly,
These modules(CT12864x335) are PERFECTLY FINE. I have 2 of them in my T42 moel # 2379-DXU and they work great. Best RAM you can get IMHO.

Plug it in! You are all good!
