Nipple marks on LCD display

#1 Post by barras » Tue Jul 12, 2005 4:48 pm

Hi all,

I've just been cleaning the display of my T42, and it seems that my ultrapoint stick has left a mark right in the center of the screen.

What would you advise to use to remove it? Also, are the other thinkpads immune to this problem?

Thanks.

It should just be an oil stain from your finger using the trackpoint. You should be able to just wipe it off with a microfiber cloth thing.

For the most part, I just clean them off when they happen, but if I put my TP in my backpack, where there are books pressing against it, I use one of these.

They come in black, which is cool, for obvious reasons...

EDIT: Woah, I just noticed that this is my 666th post. I'm not gonna post anything for a long time now, so it stays that way... :P

My trackpoint has left a permanent scratched area in the middle of the screen. I don't think there's going to ba any way to get it out. I wonder if being more careful about cleaning it (the rubber cap, which seems textured to collect stuff that might scratch) would have prevented what's now there.

Hmmm.. I don't think "666: The Mark of the Plink" has the same effective ring as "the Beast". ;)

My old Dell did this a bit, but it was the keys rubbing on the screen that were far more annoying. Overtime it's irreversible damage due to lots of small abrasions (scratches). With my new T43p I'm using one of those fancy schmancy cloths that goes on top of the keyboard to protect my screen whenever I put it away and carry it around. From my experience with other less robust laptops than the IBM, most of the rubbing comes from being bumped around and pressed on while you carry it.
X31, T43p (on sale soon I think :( ), T400
