Hi,
I'am new to this forum and planning to buy a used X Series thinkpad (X21-X24) for university. I would be a nice extra feature if I could also use it as a video player connected to my TV.
So, is there any x series model with s-video out? Judging by this forum and the IBM pdfs I would say no.
But I also read quite often about Thinkpads X2* having one. I just received a answer by an ebay seller that the S-Video out was in the media base. Asked him if he didn't mix it up with the ps2 connector.
So is there any X2* thinkpad or compatible media base / docking station with tv out or did really all the people mix it up with the PS2 connector?
What is about the ThinkPadDock (263120U) and it's so called "half length PCI adapter card". Can I plug in any normal PCI card there which is not oversized? Than I would buy the ThinkPadDock instead of the Ultrabase X2 and upgrade it with a cheap PCI grahpics adapter with s-video out.
Any X2* or Docking Station with S-Video out?
I'm holding my UltraBase X2 right now, and here's what's on it:
1x Floppy drive
1x UltraBay 2000 (mine is holding a Hitachi GD-S200, but that's obviously based on optical drive preference (or if you want, an HDD). The UB2K battery is NOT supported.)
2x Speakers
1x Power connector
1x PS/2 connector
1x Serial port
1x Parallel port
1x Security connector
1x Male docking connector
Here's what's on my X21:
1x Female docking connector
1x PCMCIA slot
1x Compact Flash slot
1x Microphone in
1x Headphone out
1x RJ-11 for modem
1x RJ-45 for LAN
1x Line in
1x VGA out
2x USB
1x Power connector
1x Security connector
1x UltraPort
Your best bet? Get a $50 scan convertor. It'll plug into your VGA port, and output S-Video and RCA video.
Edit: As for the dock approach, that'll work too. Get a Dock II, and a half-height PCI graphics card. ATI's Radeon 9250 and nVidia's GeForce FX 5200 are the newest cards that fit the bill (there ARE GeForce 6200s that are half height, but not regular PCI - only AGP or PCI Express). However, the card in the dock can't drive the main display, so if you want to display what the main display's showing on S-Video, you'll have to go the scan convertor route.
