Hard drive speed on T43 2668-Y3U

#1 Post by seppe » Wed Jul 13, 2005 7:15 am

Does anyone know the RPM speed of the 40Gb harddrive on the T43 2668-Y3U? I'm wandering if it's a 4200 or 5400 type...
I checked the tabook.pdf and tawbook.pdf but couldn't find this model; on the product support page there's no speed specification :(.
Is there a way to guess the drive speed by model number?
Thanks.
P.S: I do not own this thinkpad yet.

Well, im almost postive it is 5400. I wouldn't think IBM would put a 4200 in their top-of-the-line notebook. Anyway, why don;t you swap it out for a 60gb 7200rpm?

The strange thing I've noticed in this page is that it doesn't mention some hard drives that are shipped with some models, for example the 60Gb 7200RPM or the 80Gb 5400RPM.
Take the 2668-73U: it has the 80Gb 5400RPM drive but according to "Hard disk drive options" page it should have a 4200RPM one :?.
Do you think that when it's not clearly specified the standard model is that on the "Hard disk drive options" page?

I would be on your same advice, but I found some T43 models with a 40Gb 4200RPM disk: the 2668-WER for example...
The 7200RPM 60Gb would be a nice choice but I've only the option to buy a 80Gb 5400RPM in addition to that 40Gb. If the 40Gb is a fast drive, I'd be quite satisfied with that space, without any additional expense.
