How do you transfer video into a T43?

#1 Post by tttttada » Wed Jul 13, 2005 3:16 pm

I have a lot of Tivo programs on my receiver and would like to transfer them into my new T43. What would be the easiest way to do this?

First, is it a Series2 TiVo? If so, use this: http://www.tivo.com/4.9.19.asp

Otherwise, use a USB2 TV capture device. PCMCIA capture cards aren't common and are expensive - the USB ones are (relatively) cheap - around $100 for a basic one.
Current: 365XD (120 MHz, 72 MiB, 6.4 GB, 4x CD-ROM, 10.4" TFT)
Past: T61p 15.0" QXGA, T60p 15.0" QXGA, X61 Tablet SXGA+, R51e 14.1" XGA, X21

Thanks for your useful suggestions.
So I guess it's either a:
① PCMCIA TV capture card or a
② USB TV capture device.
I guess I'll go with ②. There's really no need for it to be portable.

Yes, I already deleted my reply concerning the PCMCIA card, because I just wasn't thinking, and hadn't remembered the USB2 ones. Much better.

Interesting...

The options showed up as blocks on mine...

I'm assuming that you're going with the USB2 capture device?

Rather than a USB TV capture card, check out a digital camcorder (mini-DV)- many have "pass through" capability- i.e., take a TV signal input (composite or S-video)(i.e. from TiVO), and convert it real time to .avi (digital video output) usually through a Firewire port. It's a little clunkier than a dedicated card, but on the other hand, you have a camcorder! Of course, you need a Firewire port on your T43, or add a Firewire PCMCIA card, but a lot cheaper than a TV capture card. Disclaimer: I'm no video capture expert!

Hi all
I am new here. First ibm laptop and all.

Anyway you should use a usb2 video capture card. Get one with the built in GPU like pinnical. It is around 100$
Good luck let us know what you decide and how you like it
