11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter II (won't do 54mbit)
11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter II (won't do 54mbit)
Hi,
Just upgraded my T40 with from standard Centrino 11mbit wireless to the 11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter II.
It works pretty well exept for one thing. On my Linksys WAP54G it connects with 54mbit for a short while then fails and connects with 11mbit through 802.11b. It kind of prefers 802.11b instead of 802.11g.
Why is this happening. Same things happens on other wireless systems for some reason.
I have updated to the latest drivers and i am running WindowsXP SP2 with all security patches.

I just tried on a Trapeze wireless network. 11mbit as well
. . . . Strange. At home i tried to set my Linksys to G-only which made my 11a/b/g connect at first (just after log-on) and then disconnect and not being able to connect. Strange!

I have the 23734gu and I beleive I have the same card.
My experience with the wrt54g and wap54g have been great.
Always full signal@54Mbps.
when @ my friends I pick up the neighbors wireless b network and connect @
11Mbps Full signal.
so I don't know that there is any kind of incompatability issue at work here.
just poor signal or poor signal reception...
maybe look at your antenna connection or reseat the card?

My card is Atheros based, so no Intel driver will do. Anyways. I tried reinstalling the newest drivers and chose in the installation that it should delete the previous setup. Rebooted.. And now it seems to work ok. Wonder how its gonna work when I have rebooted the machine a couple of times. Anyways - a strange problem if you ask me.

Reading this thread recalled to my mind an article that I read in PC Magazine awhile back. Maybe the theme of the following article applies here?
