What is the proper way to install a clean new XP on R40?

#1 Post by teletype » Mon Jul 18, 2005 8:40 am

Dear Members!

I've received valuable help on this forum from experienced Thinkpad users in the past (I'd like to thank you) that encourages me to write again. :-)

After almost 2 years of usage I'd like to format my harddisk and install a clean new XP system on my Thinkpad R40. Unfortunately IBM did not provide an install cd. However there are directories on the disk that seems to contain setup packages of different softwares IBM preinstalled. In fact the XP setup pack is on the disk.

What is the proper way to install the system and which directories should I backup? I've burnt my personal files already.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
tele
