X40 choice. HELP!

#1 Post by ThinkPad » Mon Jul 18, 2005 3:11 pm

Ive narrowed my X40 decision to these two. Both are relatively the same price. One is barely used and slightly cheaper, the other is brand new

This is the used one

This is the new one

Which one :?

I dunno if I would buy either.

I'd rather get one from Bill (with bad pixel check) or direct from Lenovo (so you can return no questions asked if there are any issues with the machine).

If I had to choose, I'd email the seller of the used one and ask if there are any bad pixels. If there are no bad pixels, I'd go with that one. I wouldn't buy the one in the sealed box... I bought my T40 from a low cost 3d party vendor and got burned by 2 bad pixels :(

Serial numbers?

Without them you can't compare apples to apples on Ebay, and I guarantee you the one in the sealed box won't have the full 3-yr warranty. The warranty started on the date shipped from IBM, not the date you will buy it

I agree with K. Eng.

Both of the Thinkpads he referenced are listed on Ebay as having warranties.

A used Thinkpad can still have a warranty in effect, which will transfer to the buyer. Part of the trick in valuing a Thinkpad listed on Ebay is determing how much of a warranty it actually has - even one that is advertised as having a one or three year warranty. The only way to know is by running the model and serial number on the Lenovo's Warranty Lookup webpage.
