help with t41 and belkin pre-n router

#1 Post by wertwert » Tue Jul 19, 2005 12:45 am

I have a t41 with an intel 2100b wifi card and a belkin pre-n router.

Ever since installing the router I've been experiencing disconnections whenever I download files, requiring to me reconnect using ibm access connections.

This problem didn't occur with my linksys wrt54g, however none of the other computers connected to my wireless network are experiencing this problem.

Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this issue?

If you haven't already, I would suggest downloading and installing the latest Intel 2100b drivers, and the latest version of IBM Access Connections. Use Software Update for the easiest installation. Alternatively you can get to the driver matrix page by starting at the following link:

I just purchased the same router and I had a couple of connection problems with my T43 but I did a belkin firmware upgrade and that seems to have solved the problem.

What card are you using? If I'm not wrong the t43's come with 2200's instead of 2100's.

I've upgraded the router firmware already but the problem's still there.

If I can't solve it soon I might get the wifi card changed.

Have you tried changing the channel the router uses? For instance, my SMC router has 11 channels available. I can choose any one of the eleven, or I can set it to Auto and let the router choose the channel automatically.

It seems like I've read that a lot of routers are set up to default to channel 6. Perhaps you are having conflicts with one of your neighbors who may be also using the same channel as you.

Also a question. You mentioned other computers connected to your network as having no problem. Are these wireless connections or wired ethernet connections?

Yes I've already switched the channels to prevent interference from other networks.

The other computers are connected wirelessly.

This sound suspiciously like the problem a co-worker had with her T41 and trying to connect to a NetGear 814v2 router.

Both her T41 and mine (both with Intel 2100 3B cards) could not maintain a stable connection with router. Interestingly enough I had the previous build of the same 814 router and I've never had any problems at all.

Both NetGear and Intel pointed the fingers at each other on this when I researched it about a year ago. Other websites indicated that alot of Centrino chip set based laptops had issues with the NetGear 814v2 router.

When my co-worker went to the Linksys WRT54G, problem went away.

So since you previously had a WRT54G and it worked, I think its a compatibility problem between your Belkin and the Intel card. My suggestion, go back to using the WRT54G.

Switching back to the linksys router isn't a viable option for me. I changed routers because I was getting lousy coverage with the wrt54g (live in a three story house, lots of dead spots).

I guess I'll be changing wireless cards then.
