T440p | Best portable dockstations
T440p | Best portable dockstations
Hi everyone.
I wonder if someone got have the sheet with all compatible portable dockstations for ThinkPad T440p-model.
I was a little disappointed with the limitations of my "native" compatible USB 3.0 UltraDock. I have two monitors at my workplace, 1080p and 1440p ultrawide. But the small thing that the resolution of a second monitor is limited when using both ports of the docking station (HDMI and DP). You can look at those limitations at the picture under my post.
I am forced to display the image on the second monitor via DP from docking station and on 1080p through mDP from laptop- In principle, it's okay... Two wires is not that hard
But I would like to know all the suitable portable docking stations for the T440p. Which could surpass the ultra docking station, maybe?
Im not looking for work dockstations, i mean big types one.
But! I have another question about one interested modern dockstation from Lenovo. I have not heard about its work on the old ThinccPads models . It is called Lenovo ThinkPad Hybrid Dock USB-C with USB-A stick.
Does anyone know if it will work on T440p?
It is a bit sad that Lenovo could not make a OneLink port for T440p. This would be the dream of my life

Yes, it will. All these USB docks are just glorious USB hubs with DisplayLink display adapters. They can extend beyond the native displays supported by your computer, and they are standard-compliant, which means they should work on any machine once the drivers are installed. The downside is that they are limited by the USB 3.0 bandwidth and use CPU cycles to process the video (because that's how USB works).

Dude. That sounds so cool. I think it's worth to try then. Of course, that docking station requires a large power supply compared to mine 65W USB 3.0 UltraDock.dr_st wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 9:18 amYes, it will. But given the used ones, they cost almost like my T440p in a poor configuration. So i have to fork out

The Ultra Dock 40A2 offers 3 monitors!
It can take 65W/90W/135W power supplies.

Re: T440p | Best portable dockstations
Guys, I found out that the ThinkPad Hybrid USB-C with USB-A dock works on my ThinkPad T440p via the USB-C to USB 3.0 adapter (which was included).
support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/pd500180-thinkpad-hybrid-usb-c-with-usb-a-dock-overview-and-service-parts
On one USB 3.0 cable I have two monitors working at my job. Primary 1920x1080 60Hz (HDMI section 2) and second 3440x1440 100Hz (DP section 1) (and laptop display with resolution of 1920x1080 60Hz is also active)
and it all works through one USB 3.0! Just wonderful! I also have several USB devices connected to the dock and ethernet cable.
No crap were noticed on the main monitor, as well as on the second one (mouse cursor moving really like 100Hz). The system interface and graphical moving elements work smoothly, while the load on the iGPU is in the box of course
It is not necessary to use a 135W power supply to power the dock, 65W is enough (slim connector, please note that there will be no USB-C charging, but in our case it is USB 3.0... )
I did not find enough answers to questions about this docking station on the Internet, most likely because it is expensive at even used. I paid around 96 USD for mine.
As for the support of two 4K monitors (30Hz is enough), I won’t be able to find out, because I don’t have the proper resources.
Most likely, such achievements will be available on other laptops from Lenovo, where there is no USB-C port, but USB 3.0 is present. ThinkPad X220, X230 and X1 Carbon Gen 1/2
etc. absolutely no exception! You will most likely need a "bit" good CPU. Perhaps the docking station works on laptops from other manufacturers.
There are more features, more ports (as well as external USB-C on dock), support for higher display resolutions and refresh rates. Many positive things before ThinkPad USB 3.0 Ultra Dock.
