Unbelievably dissapointed with IBM support...

#1 Post by roanoke » Tue Jul 19, 2005 7:24 pm

I recieved my T43 2687DRU a few weeks ago, about 8 days before the end of my 30 day return period. There were a few defects I found on my thinkpad, but none of them too noticable, so I thought I could deal with it. Well about a week ago, things hit the fan. My volume meter became distored, my left palmrest popped up, and the ac plug in on the back stopped working correctly (it was crooked when I first got it, but i didnt think much of it). So I send it in to the depot to get repaired, and when I get it back, not only did they only fix my ac adapter plug and ignore the other problems, but there is a GROUP OF THREE DEAD PIXELS about three inches each way in from the top and right side. None of these were there before, I checked screen intensively when I first got it. So I ask you, thinkpad forum members, what the do I do? Is there any possible way I could convince these people to just send me a new laptop? Is there any chance they will at least replace my screen? And why have i had such bad luck. IBM is supposed to be known for their quality of product and support...Needless to say, i'm really hoping something will happen to restore my faith in Lenovo/IBM...

I'd call IBM again and complain about the laptop being damaged while at the depot.

Doesn't the T43 come with a 3 year warranty (probably depot service right)? True you might not be able to "return" the laptop but at the very least, you should be able to get it repaired.

Don't play hardball up front with the guys on the phone. Be calm and explain what you've gone through. If you want to return the laptop and get a new one, call the IBM sales department (hopefully they gave you a contact number on your invoice).

If that fails, I'd call the IBM service number and tell them you just had your laptop repaired by the depot and that the laptop came back with a damaged panel. Hopefully they'll make good on getting it swapped.

Question: When you placed the service call, did you point out the "other problems" other than the AC plug? When I send in any laptop for depot service, I'm very explicit on what I want fixed or what is broken and I include a typed up note of what needs fixing INSIDE the laptop itself. I also write the same info down on the paperwork that comes with the depot box.

Yes, i was very specific in what I wanted repaired. I also restated everything on the form that I sent in with the thinkpad to the depot.

Yes, I've read that this is the way to do it - if you want the technicians to know and repair the problems.

The "Return Policy" says
For a new Lenovo Machine, you may return it to Lenovo for any reason within 30 days of the date of invoice and obtain a refund or credit.
My understanding is that the invoice date is the date they ship the machine, at least that's supposed to be the case with Dell.
