ntfsresize / qtparted will not resize IBM_PRELOAD partition

#1 Post by ryan » Wed Jul 20, 2005 11:46 am

I can only resize IBM_PRELOAD about 800 mb because of something called "multi-record" located at the end of my partition.

Is this a common problem? More importantly, is it fixable?

I can't even figure out what this multi-record thing is.

OK, turns out it was the fault of my heavily fragmented MFT (special part of NTFS that the degrag program that ships with WinXP cannot defrag well).

Fix was to defrag with the free trial version of O&O defrag. I spoke to the ntfsresize developre who will include MFT defragmenting in an upcoming release.
