Confused on wireless options for some T43s (2687DVU)

#1 Post by Vesper » Wed Jul 20, 2005 11:37 pm

I'm getting ready to order a T43. I've been planning on ordering the 2687DVU, but might go with a 14.1" model instead.

In any case, I'm a bit perplexed by the IBM ordering site. When I'm looking at the main information page for the 2687DVU, it says that it comes with the Intel 2915ABG. When I go to the "Configure and Buy" screen, though, it says:
Integrated wireless
Wi-Fi wireless upgradable (Standard)
Then it lists the various WiFi card options. In order for the 2915 to actually show up in the configuration/order summary, I have to check the $40 option. It seems like every Express T43 model I look at it is like this, as are several others. Some come up on the Config screen as only having Bluetooth, despite saying they have 802.11 on the "main" page.

Can anyone tell me whats going on here? I'm a bit confused! Based on what I'm seeing, this 2915 should be included without having to spend extra.

You do not have to buy the additional wireless card upgrade. A full built-in internal a/b/g is included in your 2687-dvu. That card is for those who need to add it to their base configuration thru one of theier PC slots.

You are right, it would be nice if Lenovo's order page were smart enough to know that based on your starter model. Oh well....

Some of their order pages do, others don't. It's quite confusing. Do all T43s have built-in wireless?

I think most of them do... Infact, even the lowest end one does (I rarely see most notebook manufactures do this, they either give you an external PCMCIA card or nothing)

Check here. search for your model number. This is the base configuration. Lenovo's "customization" only adds or upgrades from your base configuration. So if it shows here, it comes with your unit with no further add-ons.

enjoy!
