First time ThinkPad user's impressions of 2378-FVU

#1 Post by jl209 » Thu Jun 24, 2004 12:31 pm

Got my 2378-FVU last week and wanted to let you all know how impressed I am with it.

I've been a mac user my whole life but had to buy a PC notebook as I'm starting law school in the fall. I researched different manufacturers religiously (including reading countless threads on this forum) and finally decided on a ThinkPad 2378-FVU.

I ordered my ThinkPad on 6/06... the sales rep told me that it would take most likely 3-4 weeks... The online status page said it would ship by 8/15... Imagine my surprise when it shipped on 6/11!

After I placed my order and before I received it, I started second guessing myself-- maybe I should have gotten something a little bit "flashier." But the second I opened the box I knew I had made the right decision. This thing is SOLID. I was also a little bit worried about the text size on the screen (SVGA+), but it's no problem, and after a week of using it, I can't stand working on lower resolution 14" screens. I have 0 dead pixels, and the screen is so much brighter than my old mac laptop.

I haven't noticed the problems that other 2378-FVU users are reporting here (screen bulging, hinge problems). There does seem to be a slight diagonal gap between the CD drive and the frame, but it looks intentional.

Thanks for everyones help in this purchase (even if they didn't know they were giving it to me :P )

That's cool hangfire, looks like I misread things AGAIN  I mistook your 237333UU as the 2373VU. Oops, no worries dude.

no wonder why you want to change computers, the HP (sice the merge) is now just as bad as compcrap...err compaq was. :P Don't know aabout the rest of you here, but it's nice to have a computer that you don't have to call tech support for  every 5 minutes (a friend's HP died on her and she had to bring it in). It's nice to have the waranty as a "security blanket (afterall you ARE spending 2k-3k on a machine), but I'd just like mine to work from the get go (dell's are NOT included for ovious reason's).
