Any body seen 1810 predesktop area error cloning upgrading HDD on t40 series?
I have to replace 14 drives.
The predesktop area is ther but IBM supp has no clue what triggers it. Since its Pheonix makes it. Any body clone a T43 drive including HPA succesfully? if so how?

I haven't seen the error you speak of, but I would think that a strategy that might work would be to use the Recovery Disks on the hard drives first. Then clone the Windows partition only to the other drives. I'm not sure it would be necessary, but you could reformat the Windows partition before cloning.

Make sure the drives are all unallocated space before you use the Recovery Disks.

altough I have heard it it can be cloned have seen exact details on how app usb ect...

The process I use is as follows:

install new untouched drive run recovery cds supplied by IBM not
build app. ** I would like All details if any one can share*** Unless
someone can confirm the HPA has nothing to do with MS WPA on the OEM version.**

when cp let recovery run.

go through OOBE "This binds the FWARE partitions" as last step.
install new drive in 2nd hdd bay
Then I image 40gig pre_load part to 80gig pre_load part

only issue is error.
Only way to stop error is to set Predesktop to disabled once you do that it seems to work fine but HPA unaccesable.

have used trueimage 8 and 8 cwe, ghost 7.5-8.2 and ghost32 all the same
it is random though does not happen everytime.
