T42 recovery disc writing error!

#1 Post by neoflight » Fri Jul 22, 2005 1:38 am

hello,

I have t42 24373xu system with cd rw/dvd combo.
i was trying to make those recovery cd s using access ibm recovery tool.

i get an error message "drive is not ready or is busy performing another operation. data was not successfuly stored...insert new disc.....etc"

1) i have NO proplem writing data cds using sonic or drag drop using xp on the SAME writer in my T42.

2) i tried disabling, enabling DLA and no use.

3) i find that the data cds written have a file format 'cdfs' . the files are in good shape and readable using the same drive or another.

4) i used memorex cd-r discs for writing all those files (where i was successful except with making recovery discs and of course back up discs)

5) i tried changing the hidden 5.x gb from bios to "disabled, normal, secure"..i tried all those...

6) i havent called the ibm yet...

ANY help would be great. thanks folks

By any chance have you done a firmware update on your CD RW/DVD drive? I had a simular issue once, when I updated the firmware in a Plextor CD/RW drive. I could still record MP3's and data files on the drive with Roxio, but the backup software I had (Stomp Backup MyPC) would no longer write to the disks. I restored the firmware to the previous version, but it still wouldn't work. I read somewhere that this could be caused by an improper key in the registry. Later I did a clean install of windows, because of a hard drive crash, and now my backup program would write again.

one morething on this one!!

IBM said there are two things which prevent the drive from writing.

they are :

if DLA is running. (check in run\msconfig) and,
if netmeeting is running.

thanks, neo..
good to know that..

the only trouble i ever had writing the recovery CD's was when i used some decent but unbranded (read el cheapo) CD-R's..
