What happened to the 2GHz X32?

#1 Post by javanaut » Fri Jul 22, 2005 11:06 am

For the last several months the X32 with the 2 GHz CPU was available for sale on IBM's website. I checked today and it is no longer listed. I was looking forward to purchasing one because it was capable of taking a 7200 rpm drive. Does anyone know what happened to this model and why it is no longer available?

Regards,
Danton

http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=pen ... a=N&tab=wf

There you go - that's a whole list of 2GHz X32s.

Anyway, I'm grabbing tabook now, and checking the list...

tabook lists these 2GHz X32s:
2672-KDU Pentium M 755 2.0 512MB 12.1" XGA 80HS None Optional Intel 11a/b/g Mod/Blue Yes Gigabit XP Pro W Apr 05
2884-K4U Pentium M 755 2.0 512MB 12.1" XGA 60HS Combo X3 UltraBase Intel 11a/b/g32 Mod/Blue Yes Gigabit XP Pro 1 year Apr 05
2885-K4U Pentium M 755 2.0 512MB 12.1" XGA 60HS Combo X3 UltraBase Intel 11a/b/g32 Mod/Blue Yes Gigabit XP Pro 3 year Apr 05

The difference between 2884 and 2885 seems to be warranty - 1yr vs. 3 yr.

The difference between 2672 and the others seems to be that the 2672 has a bigger HDD, no UltraBase, and no optical drive shipped with it. It has a three year warranty.

I'd call/e-mail Bill (if you want the 2672-KDU) or IBM (1-866-96-THINK), and ask on pricing.

Thanks very much for all that info! I called IBM and the sales person said they didn't list the 2 GHz X32's because the wait time is at least three weeks but that they are available.

Thanks for all your help! I ordered my X32 (2885-K4U) with an extra gigabyte of memory around noon on August 18th and it arrived from Hong Kong this morning August 25th - just one week! I didn't think it would get here until September 15 or so. :D
