Vieo on external monitor only!??

Why would I only be getting video on an external monitor and not on the LCD? I am aware of the function key that switches the signal from LCD to external but it does nothing on this laptop

I just noticed that if you are in a light room with the sun shining on the screen you can just barely see things on the LCD. It IS working but its reaaally dark. Maybe a back lighting issue?

Sounds like dead backlight.

I know that since I installed the (mobility mod'ded) ATI drivers on my A31p, when I close the screen, the display doesn't actually turn off anymore... the backlight just turns off... I can still see things on the display if I look really hard. Sounds like that's your situation all the time. You can try to fix it yourself, have somewhere else fix it (if you're not in an area with lots of tech stuff, maybe Geek Squad at Best Buy?), or use the Thinkpad as a desktop computer with an external monitor.
