Warranty Protection After Purchase

#1 Post by chrisnyc » Fri Jul 22, 2005 5:32 pm

Is it possible to add the Thinpad Protection (or whatever it's called) for accidental damage, after you receive your new Thinkpad ? Or does it have to be purchased initially at the time of purchase ?

i'm thinking about doing this as well. My rep told me that you can upgrade your warranty any time durring your current warranty period. I don't know if this applies to damage protection as well.

According to my rep (back in January), you must purchase it within 30 days of invoice of your laptop.

Your rep must have been mistaken. I've already added warranty to my X40 8 months after purchase. You can always add more if the current warranty hasn't expired yet.

EDIT: Oops! I guess I was mistaken.

added to your warranty duration or the thinkpad protection program?

I'm not sure, i remember seeing places that said it had to be added at the time of purchase but i think you might have 30 days. I just bought it, thought couple hundred dollars for insurance on a thousand dollar laptop I'm gonna be shoving in my backpack and tossing around everyday was pretty decent.

Thinkpad Protection - can be added within 30 days of laptop purchase.

Warranty Extention - can be added anytime during duration of the original warranty.

ThinkPlus Maintenance Services Agreement: can be purchased for specific model Thinkpads to provide warranty services after the original warranty has expired.

I added TPP 2 weeks after ordering. My rep clearly told me that TPP can be added within 30 days. My previous post was referring to TPP; not general warrenty extensions.

Bummer! Has anyone ever gotten Lenovo to bend their 30 day policy on damage protection a bit? I received my TP on 6/9. I wasn't in any rush to buy the protection because I honestly misunderstood my rep and thought I could add it at any point during my warranty period. Also, assuming I do some wining and am able to still get it, how much does the damage protection cost?

Thinkplus maintenance agreements: does anyone have one of these or could someone tell me how much they cost approximately? I have a T23 that just went out of warranty...was thinking of possibly looking into adding one of these warranties.
