T41p vs T42p CD-RW/DVD and reading 8X DVD+R media...

T41p (2373-GGU) with CD-RW/DVD (FRU 92P6581) cannot read 8x DVD+R media but it can read 2.4x DVD+R media (both were burned at 2.4x speed).

T42p (2373-P2U) with it's CD-RW/DVD (FRU 39t2505) can read both the 8x and 2.4x DVD+R media.

The only marking difference that is obvious to me on the two drives is that there is a II to the right of the green CD icon on the white and black lable on the top of the drive (when you have it out of the ultrabay) on the T42p drive...

I've already updated the firmware on the T41p drive and checked the BIOS. Any ideas? I wonder if IBM would be willing to swap me a T42p type drive for the T41p one?
