I assume it would be okay for WOW. My radeon 9600 runs WOW at native SXGA+ (1400x1050) quite nicely with just a few options turned down (specifically 16bit color which I find ok). Can't vouch for HL2 or Doom3 but im going to say it could run Q3 perfectly fine.

basically yeah

my r50p with firegl t2 ran halflife 2 just fine on medium to high settings at 1024*768
of course, you shouldn't expect wonders. the firegl series isnt optimized for gaming, but it does a pretty decent job if you ask me

Good deal.
one thing I've been wondering is can you turn a fire gl into a 9600?via driver tweak or patch?
so its more optomized for gaming.
seen a lot about turning cards into the gl but never the other way.

I believe that you can use the catalyst driver with a hack but you will give up the improved GL performance unless you want to be constantly swapping drivers. The Radeon 9600 can actually be hacked to act like the fireGL however the lack of mem (64 vs 128) will certainly effect advanced openGL usage. On the other hand, I believe that the fireGL is slightly underclocked such that it does not produce the highest real-time rendering speed but it much more stable.

perhaps I'll just stick to clocking the crap out of the memory.
It sounds like this will get me by ok for gaming.

I'd be wary.... I have the FireGL t2, and sure I can play WoW fine, but any OpenGL game I try to play (medal of honor, call of duty) crashes before even opening.

I've tried days + weeks to edit driver files, I've tried modding Catalyst drivers, Omega drivers, and even ATI's official Mobility Radeon drivers. I have been living a nightmare, just wish I could have had a [censored] 9600 put in this machine.
