I can't say I'm a fan of the name. The web is already rife with "hasta la vista, baby" jokes, most of them with <arnold> XML tags

As opposed to bloated cow, ie: Longhorn?
Edit: BTW Vista is a brand name for soup crackers and other value priced baked goods.

The article says they spent 8 months researching a name. 8 months and they got Vista? I'm not saying it's that bad of a name but come on, I could of pulled a name like that outta my [censored] in 8 seconds. Personally, I like it best when we just called it Windows with no extra monikers to tag alongside it.
As for the OS itself, I can't wait to see it. Will it be a new OS worth the upgrade or will it be XP with some service packs and new packaging?

Personally, I think it's odd that they announce that Windows will be called Vista at the same time as the announcement about Medicare releasing its Vista software to doctors and clinics free of charge.

Heh - Yes, but given that it will be an OS desiged for global consumption, and not just the US, that coincidence/peculiarity is relatively minor in the grand scheme of things...nonny wrote:Personally, I think it's odd that they announce that Windows will be called Vista at the same time as the announcement about Medicare releasing its Vista software to doctors and clinics free of charge.
But if the Medicare software works better, I'll take it...

My vote would have been Windows YP
Seriously, Windows XP is so dated, 4 years old and nothing new. I switched to a Mac for the past 2 years and my T43 is the first PC I've bought since 2001... going back to XP is just painful. I'm really hoping Longhorn (Vista I guess now) will make using the Windows OS tolerable.
Hopefully Symantec will be on the ball to have a Vista compatible scanner out by the time the beta hits.

You LIKE Symantec's crap?
Try Avast or AVG for AV - it doesn't hog resources and break things like Symantec's stuff.
That said, WinV is not going to TOUCH any of my computers. And that's a HORRIBLE name. Why not, oh, Windows 2006?

They do. Go to your local Apple store and get a copy. I did and it runs great on my Powerbook G4.DavidNZ wrote: I'm just hoping Apple will offer their OS shrinkwrapped so I can try it out.
Joking here, I think you meant to release as X86 code to run on a Thinkpad perhaps.

I just seriously doubt the average X40 will be able run Vista. And I seriously doubt that many people will upgrade anyway, even if they have the hardware to run it. From what I've heard, they've removed quite a few advanced features that were originally slated to be included (WIN FS, and something else I can't remember).
So, is it Vista or XP2?
